Common mistakes when writing a CV

A CV is the first point of contact between an employer and a candidate, which is why it is important for it to be clear, well-structured, and professional. Although creating a CV may seem simple, there are several common mistakes that can leave a poor first impression.

One of the most common mistakes is making the CV too long. There is no need to include every job, task, and detail from your previous experience. The focus should be on information that is relevant to the position you are applying for.

You should also avoid copying job descriptions and position descriptions from the internet. It is much better to use your own words to describe what you actually did and what you were responsible for. This makes your CV sound more natural and allows the employer to get a better understanding of your actual experience.

A poorly formatted CV, spelling mistakes, and grammatical errors can also create an unprofessional impression. A clear layout, well-presented experience, and carefully proofread text can make a big difference.

Pay special attention to your photo as well. If you choose to include one in your CV, make sure it is professional and appropriate for a business environment. Holiday photos, nightlife pictures, or low-quality images are not a good choice for a CV.

It is also important to list your work experience in the correct order – from the most recent to the oldest. This allows the employer to immediately see where you currently work or what you did most recently.

Finally, do not forget to include your basic personal and contact information. Your first and last name, phone number, email address, and other relevant details should be clearly listed so that the employer can easily contact you.
