How to dress for a job interview?

At a job interview, the first impression is shaped not only by what you say, but also by how you present yourself. Whether the interview is held in person or online, it’s important to look neat and appropriate for the occasion.

You don’t need to be overly formal unless the position requires it, but it should be clear that you’ve made an effort to prepare. Your clothing should be clean, appropriate, and suited to the role you are applying for. It’s best to avoid bright colors or distracting details that might draw attention away from the conversation itself.

For women, a simple blouse, shirt, or blazer combined with a skirt or trousers leaves a professional impression. Makeup and jewelry should be subtle, and hair should be neat. For men, a clean shirt—possibly a blazer, depending on the job—is recommended, along with well-groomed hair and beard, if applicable. Sportswear, even during an online interview, doesn’t create the best impression.

During online interviews, many assume that what they wear isn’t as important since they’re at home. However, even if the conversation isn’t face-to-face, recruiters can see whether you’ve put in the effort. Looking neat and well-prepared shows that you take the interview seriously.

In the end, it’s not just about clothing. It’s about respect—towards the person you’re speaking with, and towards yourself.
